Thanksgiving Prayer

Father, we are thankful that there is at least one day a year
when our attention is turned to you in Thanksgiving.

Perhaps the biggest obstacle between us and you is our
busy-ness, and sometimes this busy-ness leaves us with
the idea that it is our hands and not yours that have
blessed us so abundantly. When a people are blessed
such as we are, after awhile those blessings are taken
for granted.

Today as we gather with family and friends, move upon
our busy hearts to remember that we live in prosperity
that has been given us from your hands. So many nations
on the earth suffer lack. So many people on earth will go
to bed hungry tonight. Help us remember that our country
is blessed because it was founded upon you and upon your
Word, as it is written in Psalms 33, “blessed is the nation
whose God is the Lord.”

Lord, help us remember to bless you and thank you not
only today, but again tomorrow, for you are our God and
you have blessed us more than all the nations on the face
of the earth. Let us never take these blessings for granted,
but remember to always and everywhere bring back to you
the Thanksgiving due you, from hearts that truly appreciate
the great abundance we have received because we are your
people.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
